Problem Statement
South Africa faces a dual crisis with profound economic and human costs: preventable, diet-related diseases (diabetes (12.7%), hypertension (30.8%), obesity (41% of women and 11% of men), straining public health systems and costing the economy tens of billions of rands annually.

Concurrently, chronic rural unemployment and food insecurity trap communities in poverty, limiting access to affordable, nutritious foods. This creates a self-reinforcing cycle where health deterioration fuels economic decline.

Critically, the market fails to provide scalable, affordable, and sustainable health solutions, leaving a massive, underserved population without viable alternatives and representing a significant untapped opportunity for impactful intervention.

On 31 March 2024, Gauteng MEC for Social Development Faith Mazibuko opened the Tladi Walk-in Community Centre in Soweto in response to the province’s alarming backlog of substance abuse cases — with about 32,000 people currently on the waiting list for treatment. Mazibuko emphasised that the shortage of inpatient facilities leaves many without timely help, and the new centre, alongside mobile clinics, is designed to reach more people ready to overcome addiction.
Our Solution
Kgatelopele Wellness Centre offers a comprehensive solution to the crisis of health deterioration. The centre will operate as a natural health centre, a training facility.
